I wanted to share a quick update of how I did on my challenges for the month of January. I’m hoping that by sharing a “full disclosure” every month, it’ll keep me motivated to continue to try to actually read for my challenges!
First, as a result of how much I read in January, I challenge my goodreads book goal from 80 to 110. This means I’m about 6 books ahead of schedule. I tried to do a new goal that meant I wasn’t wildly ahead of schedule, but wanted to leave a bit of a buffer because I don’t normally read as much as I did in January!
Classics Challenges – I actually signed up for two classics challenges. One is to read 12 classics in a year, with a theme each month; the other is to read 50 classics in five years. I managed to read A Christmas Carol, my January pick, Farmer Boy (the third Little House book), and started reading several others, including A Tale of Two Cities, the Prince and the Pauper, and Cricket on the Hearth. They are very slow going, with me reading only a page or so every couple of days.
COYER Dec 19-March 4 Doing very well, actually! I’ve read 10 out of my goal of 20 books, so as long as I read just over 1 book a week, I’ll finish in time. And now that I think of it, I actually have two books that I read for COYER, with reviews to be written or to be published, so I’m really in excellent shape. In the Belly of the Elephant and Henchgirl were top favorites.
Reading New England- I read The Long Walk, by Stephen King, which takes place in Maine and is of course, written by a Maine author. I’m on target for the year.
I Love Libraries – also on target. I read 2 books, with a goal of 24 books for the year. I read The Long Walk from the library and Farmer Boy for the year. I have taken out a few other books from the library, but have not managed to actually finish any ;/.
Tudor Book Reading Challenge – FAILED. Started, but did not get much more than 40 pages of reading done. Surprisingly, what should have been the easiest challenge got the least amount of love from me!
Finishing the Series – Read Farmer Boy and that’s it! I’m behind on this one, with a goal of 16 books, so I definitely need to get caught up. Most of my books in the pile are quick reads, so I’m still in OK shape.
