With the end of 2016, and the beginning of 2017, it’s time to update my ongoing challenge of “read all the books”. I had chosen Piers Anthony, an author I loved as a kid through my early adult years.
I did manage to reread about ten of his books for the challenge, but I just can’t read his books anymore, for a variety of reasons already discussed to death in my reviews, and in this post “My Love Hate Relationship with Piers Anthony”. I just can’t do it anymore.
After much thought and debating, I’m going to try reading Stephen King, for a few reasons.
- Though his book the Stand is my all time favorite book, ever, and Under the Dome ranks way up there in my favorites as well, SK is really outside my comfort zone. I don’t really read horror/suspense, it’s not one of my many favorite genres to read.
- I haven’t really read a lot of SK, if you figure a pure ratio between books read/books written, as compared to the other author I really debated about, Robert Heinlein. RH is one of my favorite all time authors, so I’ve read a lot of his stuff already, though there’s still many more of his books to go.
So, SK it is! I’m re-setting the date, and officially starting my new Read all the Books challenge as of today. I’m still not sure about finishing the Dark Tower series, but for sure I’ll at least make the attempt. I’m planning on working on a mix of classic SK & newer SK, along with a mix of new reads & re-reads.
