Hey guys! Are you ready for Christmas? I am! 🙂
Today we have a very special guest post, and afterwards stay tuned for a terrific giveaway!
I’ve never had problems buying gifts for people. Whenever I wander into stores, I often come across items that bring a friend or family member to mind. Perhaps I know them “that well,” or a certain style or habit of theirs sticks with me, especially ones that we share.
When I was asked to write this guest post for the holidays, I immediately thought how fun it would be to come up with gifts for my main characters of my Fantasy/SciFi series, The Weir Chronicles. The fourth book in the five-book series is about to debut, and I thought it would be easy to choose holiday gifts for characters that I’ve not only created, but each shares a piece of my personality.
It wasn’t as easy as I predicted! I’ve linked some websites (no affiliations or endorsements by any means) to get you started in case you share the same wish lists as my characters!
What would Ian want? Ian Black is the last of the Weir. A race of magical beings that hold a direct connection to the energies of the Earth. But Ian wasn’t born with the full complement of powers that was Prophesized, and because of it, he struggles with protecting planet earth without the tools he needs. Because the Weir love and protect everything that is natural, perhaps he would appreciate a powerful telescope, a collection of geodes, or a science kit that emphasizes the wonders of earth and space. Of course, he’s only nineteen years old! He missed out on much of his childhood, for the sake of keeping him safe, and I suspect he’d love to receive a gift that would bring out the young adult in him. Perhaps a new dirt bike (since Patrick wrecked his other one) or a chance to skydive or go paragliding, since he can’t fly!
What would Rayne want? She’s the nosy college reporter who uncovered Ian’s secrets and stole his heart. She never dreamt that her investigation would lead her into the magical, secret world of the Weir. Her life has never been the same since pledging herself to them and helping Ian defeat the Weir traitor, Aeros before he plunges Earth into natural self-destruction. She is a self-determined woman who would enjoy some romance if Ian could spare the time from his planet hopping duties. He’s brought her rare orchids, filled her bedroom with magical, dancing rose petals and sent butterflies to deliver his tender kiss. More than anything, she would want what they can’t have. A passionate kiss, a caress, or getting swallowed up in his embrace. But alas, they cannot physically touch, thanks to her evil scientist father, and their love is destined to remain a hair’s breath away.
What would Patrick want? He’s the outsider and the one that values friendship above all else. Demonstrated when he abandoned his successful entertainment company to help Ian in his quest to save Earth. He’s a businessman, but also a big kid at heart. He’s a slob, skirts around rules, and secretly wants to be Ian’s sidekick! He would be happiest with the latest electronics, perhaps a personal drone, a robot assistant, or better yet, a luxurious massage chair! I suspect that the group will get him an exercise bike or a treadmill, though. He’ll groan, but will use it if Tara coaxes him. Anything to please her.
What would Tara want? She’s Ian’s Channel, along with the wolf, Saxon. She’s Ian’s protector and the closest thing he has to a sister. She’s very private and can be a loner when she’s not watching over or assisting Ian. She too loves everything natural, having been raised as a Weir, along with her murdered identical twin sister, Mara. She might enjoy some new music downloads from iTunes, circular skates, or a constellation projector that syncs with music.
What would Jaered want? He’s the rebel from Thrae, Earth’s alternate universe. Jaered’s wife was murdered by his megalomaniac father, Aeros, and he rarely allows himself to enjoy life. He’s bent on revenge, and his actions serve the greater good, rarely himself. He will likely reject any gift given to him by the rebel leader, Eve. She knows well enough not to bother. But if she really puts some effort into it, she may have a custom made dart board with his father’s image. Or a new gun or sword, given how he spends most of his free time sparring or keeping his hand-to-hand combat skills at their best, waiting for the day he can defeat his father and save both his beloved Thrae, and Earth.
And then, there’s Milo. The caretaker of Ian’s estate and father-figure to them all. He’d rather leave the globe hopping and battles to the young’ins and putter around in his kitchen. I image Ian and Patrick might pick out a fermenter lid kit, and Rayne and Tara getting him an herb saver, to preserve the bounty of his greenhouse. Of course, Milo, himself might have his eyes on a flour shaking rolling pin, knowing it could have a dual purpose to help him keep the rowdy brood in line.
I hope you’ve enjoyed the mind candy along with me! Next time you’re enjoying the holidays with friends and family, ask the question—what would you give your favorite superhero if you drew their name for the holidays? What could you possibly give someone who can take whatever they want? What might your favorite hero or heroine desire? For me, it’s being with family and friends, reminded that I am already blessed with SUPER people who love and support me!
Happy Holidays from author Sue Duff and The Weir Chronicles gang!
